15. Part 5: Why Hard Work Alone Doesn't Create Wealth
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The biggest money lie most of us inherit sounds noble on the surface: work harder, sacrifice more, and wealth will arrive as a reward.
But if that were true, the most burnt out women would be the most prosperous.
Today we pull that story apart and replace it with something more honest and more useful: real wealth requires the ability to receive, and receiving starts with safety in your body.
I connect the dots between hustle culture, scarcity mindset, and nervous system regulation.
I also talk about alignment as a wealth strategy: lining up your values, your actions, and your nervous system’s sense of safety.
Allowing isn’t passive and manifestation isn’t sitting around hoping.
It’s an active practice of removing resistance, resting without guilt, saying yes to what feels expansive, and saying no to what drains you. From pricing your work to protecting your energy, I share how working with your body can create momentum that grinding never does.
If this lands and you’re ready to shift from fear to flow, join me for Rewiring Wealth and start building new generational patterns of prosperity.

Series Context And Why It Matters
SPEAKER_00It's day five of the Your Money Matters series. And again, I'm so excited to bring you this episode of the series. Go back and listen to the previous ones. If you haven't yet, I've been releasing one a day, and they give you valuable insight to my background, my experience, what I have learned all these years helping women with their personal finances and working with their body when it comes to scarcity and opening the body to receiving prosperity.
The Hard Work Equals Wealth Lie
SPEAKER_00So today's episode is about a lie that we've been sold since childhood. It's printed on greeting cards, and you might have heard it by well-meaning relatives, and then it's reinforced all around us by corporations. And it's that if you work hard enough, if you sacrifice enough, if you hustle, grind long enough, wealth will come to you as a reward for your suffering. And this is a belief that has never felt true in my body. Once I was able to put it into words, I was like, what in the world? And we're taught that money is a transaction. You give your hours, your labor labor, and you receive dollars in exchange. And it seems pretty simple. But if it were true, where are all the people that are receiving wealth as their reward for suffering? Why are so many exhausted, burnt out women working excessive hours a week and still feel stressed with money? They feel broke financially, spiritually. They find themselves running an MD, chasing a paycheck that never quite covers the cost of their peace, of their sanity. And when I became a mom in November of 2022, I watched my own relationship with work shift dramatically. I realized that my old strategy of climbing the corporate ladder, which I knew I had an experience in 2020, that I was like, oh yeah, this is this is not it. The American dream is not real. That hustling to survive, it's not sustainable. And it's actually counterproductive. I came to realize that the harder I pushed against my body, my nervous system, the more resistance I created. And I want to talk about why hard work alone doesn't create wealth. And more importantly, I want to talk to you about what does. Because, like we were taught, and what you already know, the secret isn't working harder. The secret is learning to allow yourself to receive.
Hustle Mode And The Nervous System
SPEAKER_00So I'm gonna dive a little bit into biology. Ugh, because I just love the body, as we know. When you're in hustle mode, your body is in a state of activation. Your nervous system is in fight or flight, your cortisol levels, your stress hormones are high, your adrenaline is going, you're focused, driven, and productive. But here's the catch your nervous system cannot differentiate between the stress of a deadline and the stress of a predator. So when you're constantly pushing, you're overriding your body, your body is perceiving itself as under threat. And when you under threat, your primary goal is survival, not expansion. So if you think about it, if you were being chased by a bear, you wouldn't stop to check your money. You wouldn't take time to nurture a creative project. Your focus would entirely be set on getting away from that bear to survive. You would need to be hoarding that energy to survive. Your body is going to shut down anything that is not essential. And that's what happens when we hustle from a place of scarcity. We're biologically wired to conserve our resources because that's how we survive. And so when we work harder to experience safety, we actually inadvertently block the flow of prosperity and abundance because our body is bracing for impact, it feels under threat. And so wealth requires a different physiological state. It requires your body to activate the rest and digest state. This is where you can listen to your intuition, where opportunities are recognized. This is where creativity thrives, and creative solutions can come to you that you otherwise wouldn't have thought of. So hard work is just creating more friction, it's not actually generating momentum. And what's so beautiful is I've had so many moms ask me, Sarah, how do you run a business and work full-time and do all the things that you're doing? And I'm like, it's because I listen to my body. When I follow my cycle and I'm in tune with my feminine cycle, and my body needs rest, I rest. And that rest allows me to recuperate in substantial ways that then when I have time and energy to be productive and to focus, it's tenfold rather than pushing through those times of rest. It makes such a difference and generates so much momentum.
Alignment And The Practice Of Allowing
SPEAKER_00So when I say hard work isn't the key to wealth, what is? It's about being in alignment with wealth, specifically the alignment of your values, your actions, and your nervous system's sense of safety. When you work from a place of alignment, like I'm saying, I rest when I need to rest, I take action when it feels good in my body. That's going with the flow, that's allowing for ease. It's not grinding against the current. It's not working against what's meant to work. When you're doing work that feels expansive rather than depleting, you create momentum. You are able to set boundaries that protect your energy rather than drain it. And this is where this concept of allowing comes in. Allowing isn't passive, it's so funny. And manifestation. For years there was this big misconception of, oh, I'm just gonna manifest, I'm just gonna sit around and do nothing, and it's gonna come to me. That's not how manifestation works, and that's not how allowing works. They are both active practices of removing resistance. It's saying yes to opportunities that excite you, that feel expansive in your body, and no to opportunities or experiences that drain you. It's trusting that when you serve your highest good and fill your cup, it overflows, and you allow so much good to come your way. And for me, this shifted everything. I stopped trying to force outcomes through sheer willpower, I started checking in with my body more and more. Is something feeling contracting? Or do I feel expansion? Am I acting out of fear or out of love? When I aligned my actions, my financial strategies with my body, with my truth, things changed. I started working smarter, more efficiently. I stopped leaking energy into projects that didn't serve me. I allowed myself to rest without guilt. I allowed myself to charge what my offers are worth. And my finances expanded. Not because I hustled harder, worked harder, but because I released the blocks that were keeping me small.
Generational Scarcity And Healing Patterns
SPEAKER_00And this work isn't just about me or you and individual success, which, yes, that's part of it, but that's not the core of it. It's about generational healing. We all carry inherited patterns of scarcity, we carry stories that say money is dirty, or wealth is wrong, or that we must suffer to deserve what we desire. And these stories live in our bodies, they live in our cells, they dictate our behaviors, but we have the power to rewire them. And when we learn to access the wisdom within our bodies, our nervous systems, we break cycles, we show our children that wealth is not about hoarding, it's about allowing and going with the flow. That prosperity is not about isolation, it's about community, and that we can be successful in our own ways without sacrificing our souls. When we allow wealth to flow through us, we change the world, we build futures filled with love and peace and joy, we release the burden of survival and embody the energy of play and curiosity, which honestly make life so much fun.

Worthiness Without Exhaustion
SPEAKER_00And remember, you don't need to work harder to be worthy. You are already worthy. Your worth is inherent, it is not earned. Your job is not to prove your value through exhaustion and depletion. Your job is to clear the path for abundance to flow, to open your hands, to trust, to surrender, to receive. Thank you for listening, for being with me in this series, and for understanding that in a world where money flows through good people, everything changes.
