10. Receive Without Hustling
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
If you’ve ever tried to rest and felt your body fight back, there’s a good chance it’s not a motivation problem.
It’s nervous system wiring.
We’re talking about the hidden “barrier to receiving” that keeps so many moms stuck in exhaustion, over giving, and hustle even when we’re smart, intuitive, and fully aware we need boundaries and self-care.
We break down what’s happening under the surface: your nervous system acts like a security system, constantly scanning for threat, and it can learn that receiving support is unsafe.
That’s when fawn mode takes over people pleasing, proving your worth through output, saying yes when it drains you, and pushing through fatigue because slowing down feels risky.
We also dig into scarcity programming around time, money, and resources, and how “never enough” beliefs can keep your body braced and stuck in burnout cycles.
From there, we shift into what actually helps: somatic healing and body-led practices that teach your system a new baseline.
I share why targeted breathwork can move you from survival mode into receiving mode, what clients report after sessions, and how learning to receive can break generational patterns of depletion and scarcity.

Why Receiving Feels Hard
SPEAKER_00Welcome back, welcome back. Today's episode, we're talking about your nervous system's barrier to receiving. And a lot of my work since 2023 has been focused on helping moms shed their past, release stress, release trauma, open your body and open your heart to receiving. And the reason being is that I found it's kept so many of us stuck in exhaustion, overgiving, despite the wisdom that we have, that's brilliant and intuitive, and yet moms are working harder, hustling when they know better. But it's programming and conditioning from society. This might be for you if you're someone that understands a little bit about your body, about the energetics of the body. Maybe you can read a room or get the bodily sensations of hairs standing up on the back of your neck. You might know about boundaries and self-care and really work to practice it. But yeah, here you are. You're working longer hours than you want to, saying yes to things that drain you, pushing through exhaustion when your body is screaming and asking for rest. And in your soul, you know receiving is important, but your nervous system is not operating that way. And as someone who comes from a history of overworking, overgiving, people pleasing, really being a workaholic, and now transitioning into a state of what I really call peaceful prosperity. I've come to learn the hustling, it's not a character flaw, it's not laziness or poor time management. It's this deeper seed within your nervous system that's protecting you, keeping you safe. But it's also keeping you small. So I want to start with like what's happening beneath the surface.
Hustle As Nervous System Protection
SPEAKER_00Your nervous system is like your body's security system. It's scanning for threats, it's scanning to keep you safe. And when it detects danger, it triggers a response or an alarm. And those responses bring you into the fight, flight, fawn, or freeze states. And many of us have been wired to fawn to people please, to overgive, to hustle to prove our worth. And why is that? It's because somewhere along the way we learn that receiving was dangerous, that asking for help was burdensome. Maybe we witnessed that being vulnerable led to disappointment, or experienced that ourselves. Maybe we experienced our own needs being consistently deprioritized to other things. And this creates a response in the body that closes you off to receiving. Your nervous system literally starts to perceive receiving as dangerous. So it activates that response. Work harder, do more, prove your value through output instead of allowing yourself to receive support, rest, abundance, prosperity. What's really fascinating to me about all of this and in working with moms is that it happens on a subconscious level. You intellectually know, you know that receiving is good. You know you quote unquote should ask for help, should reach out for support. But everything's okay. You're not in a state of crisis. It's not like the sky is falling. Everything is just okay. You're over a little overwhelmed, you feel overworked, you feel exhausted here and there, but your body is still wired for protection, and it's why you can attend workshops, read all the books, and yet you still find yourself back in the same cycle of burnout. You're ready to receive support, receive love, receive rest, receive recognition, and really allow yourself to be on that receiving end of all the good things life has to offer. Now, what's ironic is that moms, women in the service industry, healers are often the last people to receive their own medicine. You give so much to others, your children, your parents, your family, your community, your clients. You're so busy holding that space for others that you forget to hold it for yourself. And it happens for many reasons. One of them being the nervous system that we just talked about, right? Being conditioned, programmed to love efficiency. Your brain gets addicted to that, becomes wired to this hushled response and gets used to the stress and then the good feelings that come after the fact, after you complete something in a heightened state. And so your body will keep defaulting to that pattern until you consciously rewire it and practice new nervous system habits over and over and over and over again until they become your new habit.
Scarcity Programming And Overgiving
SPEAKER_00And another reason I want to talk about why this happens is scarcity program. Scarcity programming. Money, personal finances are areas that I'm really, really passionate about and I'm gonna bring back into remothering mamas because I stepped away from it for a little bit. And I would teach about abundance and showing women and moms, right? Not only this cliche of like, be grateful for the present and what you have in this moment, but recognize the programming that you carry that there's never enough. Sayings like, we can't afford that when really you could afford it, it's just not a priority. Being able to change language around, oh, that's not a priority right now, or maybe next time. Oh, I love that you picked that out. Feeling there's not enough time, not enough energy, not enough of resources in general. And these beliefs, the scarcity mindset, also triggers the nervous system into hoarding and hustling instead of allowing an opening to receiving. This is why you can have like all this knowledge in the world about self-care and boundaries, like we talked about in the beginning, um, but yet find yourself late into the night working, saying yes to more than one thing, ignoring your own needs, putting too much on your plate at once. Your nervous system might be running on autopilot, and right now it's not programmed. I don't like saying that our bodies are programs or computers, but your nervous system is not wired right now for receiving, and that's okay.
Somatic Rewiring Through Breathwork
SPEAKER_00So, how can you change the cycle? How can you start new cycles to rewire your nervous system to receive instead of hustle? It all comes down to working with the body. Remothering mamas is body-led practices and programs, right? Somatic, we've talked about in previous episodes, is working with the body. And you want practices that work with your nervous system, not just practices that are right, oh, somatic yoga because it sounds good, oh somatic sound healing, right, because it sounds good. You want practices that actually help you heal your nervous system, not just feel your body and notice things, actually heal the nervous system. So, this is one of the many reasons why I created my most recent breathwork experience called Rebirth Breath Work Experience. Um, it's not just another meditation or visualization, it's really a targeted 90-minute journey to gently guide your nervous system from survival mode into receiving mode. We go through specific breathing patterns and embodied awareness that actually allow your thinking mind to calm and experience in your body what it feels like to receive, to release old patterns that have kept you hustling, and create new neural pathways that support you in receiving in your life. So many clients, after breath work sessions with me, report feeling profoundly peaceful, like a state of peace they've never experienced before. Feeling deeply calm and centered, clear about what they truly need. Had a mom come to one of my retreats, and she always had a hard time every year celebrating her birthday. During the breathwork experience, it came through to her. This year for my birthday, we're going to Disney. I'm going to take my family to Disney. And it's going to happen. No matter the obstacles, no matter what comes up, this is something I really want and desire and need from myself. And after the retreat, she went, she booked the flight, booked the hotels, and had the most incredible birthday with her family in Disney. It's that need, that want, desire that comes through and is so clear and felt in the body. You open yourself up to receiving support, receiving abundance, abundance of time, abundance of energy, abundance of money. You feel renewed energy and creativity. I hosted a retreat just this past weekend and facilitating being in the room with healing, guiding the breath work journey. I came back and was like, all right, I'm gonna write emails, I'm gonna create new posts. It was this boost of energy and creative outlet. And it's not about working harder, it's really receiving that clarity and renewal that your body needs to allow you to work smarter from a place of overflow rather than abletion. If you're ready to rewire your nervous system to receiving, I'm gonna invite you into this experience. Again, it's a 60-minute recorded journey. You can access anytime, anywhere. It's perfect for women with busy lives. You can find the link in the show notes. It's only $47, which is a steal for all it has to offer. It gives you guidance on how to set up your session, set up your virtual healing space, and then afterwards, how to integrate, how to bring what you've received and learned back into your everyday life to embody who you're becoming. You're creating space to show up more fully from a place of love for everyone you serve. You're also modeling what it looks like to live in alignment, to practice what you preach. You're really breaking generational cycles of depletion and scarcity, especially within the archetype of the matriarch. And you're allowing for those new cycles of receptivity and
Invitation To Receive And Closing
SPEAKER_00reciprocity. To close out this episode, I just want to say remember that like hustling, working harder, your nervous system being in this overdrive state, it's not your enemy. Your body is protecting you. And if it's been this way for 30 years, it's gonna take some time for the body to rewire. It's not gonna happen overnight. But you have that internal power and wisdom to change your life, to open yourself to receiving, to become peaceful and prosperous, like you never imagined possible. You have that ability to guide your nervous system back to safety, back to a natural state of flow and ease. When you yourself receive, you're not just changing your own life, you're changing the world. Because you're creating a ripple effect of safety, of love, of abundance that touches everyone around you. I want to thank you for being here, for listening to this episode, and being brave enough to just look at this pattern within you, and for being brave enough to do this work because you're a leader that our world so desperately needs. Until next episode, remember to breathe deeply, receive generously, and trust that you are enough exactly as you are. I'll see you next time.
